Projection can behave differently by cabinet build type.

Frame and overlay conditions

  • Face-frame cabinetry: confirm rail, stile and edge clearances.
  • Inset cabinetry: check projection and adjacent-door swing before drilling.
  • Full-overlay cabinetry: check repeated alignment and finger clearance across banks.
  • Slab drawer fronts: confirm handle scale, centerline and pull comfort.

Room and panel conditions

  • Appliance panels and refrigerator panels need stronger scale and fixing review.
  • Closet cabinetry may need long pulls with comfortable grip clearance.
  • Laundry room and mudroom cabinetry should be checked for high-use handling.

US projection, clearance and fixing questions

What is projection on a cabinet pull?

Projection is how far the pull, knob or cup pull stands out from the cabinet face. It affects grip comfort, clearance beside other doors, appliance-panel use and whether the hardware feels balanced on the selected front.

Is grip clearance the same as projection?

No. Projection is the outward depth of the hardware, while grip clearance is the usable finger space behind, under or inside it. A pull can have enough projection but still feel tight if the hand path is shallow.

When should a US project use drawing review?

Use drawing review when the hardware is going on appliance panels, refrigerator panels, inset cabinetry, face-frame fronts, thick custom fronts, existing holes or repeated drawer banks. A quick review can prevent drilling errors before made-to-order production.

Should a cabinet shop use the product page or the spec sheet?
