Capramont & Co / Our Story

A Different Kind
of Heritage.

A beautiful object deserves rather more than a beautiful explanation.

We make luxury cabinet handles, knobs, pulls and appliance hardware to order in England, for bespoke kitchens, fitted furniture and exceptional interiors. The precision behind them comes from a family manufacturing business established in 1982, with more than four decades of expertise across elite motorsport, aerospace and marine engineering.

01 / The family workshop

The Past Is Worth Keeping When It Still Has Something to Teach.

The story began in an English precision-engineering workshop in 1982, long before Capramont & Co became a cabinet hardware brand. Across the decades that followed, the family business manufactured demanding components for elite motorsport, aerospace and marine applications, much of it to confidential drawings.

Machined faces, bearing surfaces, internal geometry and material behaviour had to be considered together. A component was not finished when it looked correct. It was finished when measurement showed that it was correct.

From the original family archive. These are original factory photographs, not recreated heritage imagery. They document the engineering practice from which Capramont's manufacturing approach developed.

Drawing control, material discipline, dimensional accuracy and verification remain central to our cabinet hardware today. The objects have changed; the responsibility for getting the detail right has not.

02 / A connection to motorsport

A Rather Unusual Introduction to Precision.

For more than four decades, our family manufacturing business has made precision components for elite motorsport, aerospace and marine applications. These photographs show a young Capramont & Co founder on a private visit to a Milton Keynes motor-racing facility, circa 1985.

A design may be expressive. Its dimensions should be exacting.

03 / Evidence, not adjectives

Where Precision Had to Prove Itself.

Precision housings, specialist gearbox and transmission parts, engine components and complex high-temperature alloys formed part of the family's historic engineering work. Components made to confidential drawings required controlled machining and dimensional verification.

Relationships between machined faces, internal bores, bearing surfaces and fixing details were checked across multiple axes. On selected critical features of that earlier work, tolerances were held to within ±5 microns, verified by coordinate measuring equipment.

CMM inspection checks critical dimensions and the relationships between faces, bores and other features across multiple axes. Manufacture is verified against the drawing before the component leaves production.

±5 µm

The measurement belongs to specified critical features of those earlier engineering components, not to every dimension of a modern cabinet handle. The enduring principle is simpler: agree the drawing, select the material, control manufacture, measure the result and verify before delivery.

04 / The making today

The Object May Be Decorative. The Making Is Not.

Capramont manufactures made-to-order cabinet hardware within its specialist English manufacturing and finishing operation. Fixing centres, overall length, diameter, projection and fitting position affect far more than appearance: they determine how hardware sits on cabinetry and how confidently it can be installed or replaced.

For architects, interior designers, kitchen studios and joinery companies, project requirements can be reviewed directly with the manufacturing business. Custom centres, adjusted lengths, alternative materials and appropriate finish approval are considered before manufacture, not improvised on site.

Controlled dimensions

Centres, projection, diameter, overall length and fixing positions are managed as manufacturing details, helping hardware align across fitted kitchens, wardrobes, utilities and appliance fronts.

Finish approval

A physical sample can be used where appropriate to agree the intended finish. An approved specification guides production while recognising the natural variation and ageing of living brass patinas.

Custom capability

Custom centres, adjusted lengths, eligible materials and project-specific details can be reviewed before production, rather than left to last-minute compromises.

Project continuity

Recorded project dimensions, materials and finishes can support later additions, replacements and subsequent phases without restarting the original specification discussion.

Specified before production

Hardware is considered in relation to the cabinetry, design proportion, finish, use and installation before the first component is made.

05 / One manufacturing philosophy

Two Expressions. One Standard.

The same drawing-led approach serves two distinct design intentions. Heritage begins with architectural character and the judgement of proportion. Performance Metals starts with material properties and the demands of the environment. Both are made to order in England.

06 / Founder-led

The Maker and the Specifier.

Capramont brings together two complementary disciplines: the judgement of those responsible for making the component and the experience of those responsible for placing it within an exceptional project.

Manufacturing and product design

The Maker

Product design and manufacture are led within the family manufacturing business, drawing on more than four decades of precision engineering across motorsport, aerospace and marine work.

Much of that historical work was undertaken under confidential manufacturing contracts where the supplier was not publicly identified. What carries into Capramont is the underlying discipline: controlled drawings, material understanding, careful machining, dimensional inspection and verification before dispatch.

Designers and architects can discuss custom fixing centres, adjusted lengths, materials and finishing requirements with the manufacturing business itself, rather than routing every question through an external chain.

Commercial, interiors and international projects

The Specifier

Vanita Dhand-Panchal has spent more than two decades in luxury interiors and international business development, working with designers, architects and procurement specialists on five-star hospitality and high-end residential projects across Europe, the Middle East and North America.

Earlier in her career, she developed a pioneering software and hardware system for the international airline inflight-catering industry, receiving a World Innovations Award and the Queen's Award for Professional and Academic Achievement at Buckingham Palace.

She also serves as a Dissertation Supervisor and Guest Lecturer on the MSc in Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Executive MBA programmes at Warwick University.

07 / The Capramont Standard

A Beautiful Result Should Not Be a Matter of Chance.

The Capramont Standard applies the discipline of English precision engineering to the specification and manufacture of made-to-order cabinet hardware.

Project requirements are defined before production and, where needed, held within a tracked specification drawing and hardware schedule: centres, overall dimensions, material, finish and other relevant details. An agreed specification then informs finish selection, scheduling, manufacturing progress, inspection and dispatch.

Completed hardware is checked against its approved specification before leaving the workshop, with an inspection record issued. The same project information can support later additions, replacement pieces and subsequent phases.

  2. Finish Selection Chosen finish confirmed · Sample optional
  3. Production Scheduled Dispatch date confirmed
  4. Progress Updates Milestone emails through manufacture
