Cabinet Hardware Materials & Finishes Guide | Capramont & Co

Material and finish choice should be approved before cabinet hardware is ordered. Capramont & Co separates its range into Heritage solid-metal finishes and Atelier performance materials, then supports specification through physical samples, finish sign-off, product tear sheets, project review and Hardware Schedule control for made-to-order British cabinet hardware.

Materials, Finishes & Project Application

Cabinet Hardware Materials, Finishes & Performance Metals

Specify the hardware by two distinct routes: Heritage for finish character, living patina and architectural tone; Performance Metals where the engineering material, environment, handling, wear or long-term service forms part of the brief.

Riyadh and Jeddah

For Saudi projects, compare materials and finishes for high-use cabinetry, cleaning, client approval and inland or coastal conditions, then review physical samples before production.

01 · Specification Rule

Choose the design. Then decide whether the project is finish-led or performance-led.

Heritage and Performance Metals are separate specification routes. Do not treat one as an automatic substitute for the other. Product-specific Performance Metals availability and final material suitability remain application-specific.

02 · Heritage Finishes

Living brass patinas and stable stainless for interior cabinetry.

The Heritage route is selected for finish character. Living brass surfaces continue to change with handling and time; website imagery is representative, so the approved physical sample should establish the production reference for specified projects.

Living brass

Aged Brass

Warm, lightly aged brass with restrained antique character and natural tonal movement.

Living brass

Fine English Antique Brass

Deeper traditional brass patina with rich brown tones and natural tonal variation.

Living brass

Dark Aged Brass

Dark muted brass combining brown and bronze with subtle cooler undertones.

Living brass

Medium Bronze

Warm red-brown chemically developed bronze patina with natural tonal depth on solid brass.

Living brass

Dark Bronze

Deeper dark-brown bronze patina with occasional cooler undertones and inherent tonal variation.

Living brass

Black

Chemically blackened solid brass with charcoal and subtle blue-black undertones rather than a flat painted black.

Living brass

Satin Brass

Natural solid brass refined to a softly satin living surface with restrained lustre.

Stable stainless

Satin Stainless Steel

Cooler stainless-steel route for schemes requiring greater long-term visual consistency.

03 · Performance Metals

Start with what the hardware must withstand.

Performance Metals are material-led. The engineering material and, where relevant, its engineered surface form part of the specification. Review environment, touch frequency, cleaning, wear, weight and long-term service before selecting the route.

01

Corrosion resistance

Review 316L stainless steel or naval brass where moisture, salt-laden air or sustained humidity influence the brief.

02

Environmental stability

Review naval brass, nickel-coated naval brass or 316L where the base material needs to perform beyond a conventional decorative finish.

03

Low mass

Review aerospace-grade aluminium or Grade 5 titanium where reduced weight forms part of the hardware or joinery specification.

04

Strength-to-weight

Grade 5 titanium combines exceptional strength-to-weight performance with inherent corrosion resistance and long-term material stability.

05

Repeated handling & wear

Review carbon-coated stainless steel for high-touch cabinetry where wear resistance and long-term surface consistency are priorities.

06

Controlled surface appearance

Powdercoated aluminium provides a lightweight route with repeatable geometry and controlled black or white architectural surface character.

Grade 5 Titanium (Ti-6Al-4V)Exceptional strength-to-weight performance, low mass, corrosion resistance and long-term material stability.

04 · Decision Matrix

Heritage vs Performance Metals: which route should you use?

If the question is visual tone, warmth and patina, begin with Heritage. If the question is moisture, surface durability, stability, low mass or specialist material performance, review Performance Metals.

05 · Project Application

Specify by environment, not simply by room.

The highest-risk condition should control the review route. Moisture, salt air, frequent cleaning, heavy use, whole-home repetition or client sign-off can change the correct material or approval process.

06 · Samples & Sign-Off

Move from screen selection to physical approval before production.

Use physical samples where cabinetry colour, stone, timber, lighting, mixed metals, cleaning or client approval affects the decision. The approved sample becomes the practical finish reference before made-to-order production.

Performance review

Performance Metals Knob Samples

Use when the project may require naval brass, 316L, titanium, aluminium or coated stainless routes.

Approval does not replace product-specific dimensional checks. Use the selected PDP and technical sheet, then record the approved finish or material in the project schedule where required.

07 · Product Proof

Specification proof available before ordering.

Use PDP imagery, visible product data and A4 product sheets to check scale, centres, material route and finish direction before release.

Capramont hardware is made to order in England. Performance Metals availability varies by collection and hardware type; specify only the material options offered on the selected product and confirm suitability against the intended application.

10 · FAQs

Material and finish questions.

Use the selected PDP, technical sheet and approved sample as the final references.

Which Capramont material route should I choose?
Choose Heritage when the project is mainly finish-led and needs a premium living finish or stable satin stainless route for interior cabinetry. Choose Performance Metals when material suitability, high wear, humidity, coastal exposure, low mass or specialist metal performance forms part of the brief.
What is the difference between Heritage and Performance Metals?
Heritage is selected for finish character, patina and natural development. Performance Metals is selected where the engineering material, engineered surface or service condition forms part of the specification.
Should I approve a finish before ordering?
Yes. Physical finish sign-off should happen before made-to-order production where cabinetry colour, lighting, stone, timber, mixed metals or client approval can affect the final decision.
Which material is best for bathrooms or coastal interiors?
Review the actual project condition rather than choosing by room name alone. Performance Metals such as 316L stainless steel or naval brass may be appropriate where offered, but final material suitability remains application-specific.
Do all products come in every Performance Metal?
No. Performance Metals availability varies by collection and hardware type. Only specify material options offered on the selected product.
Does this page replace product spec sheets?
No. This page compares material and finish routes. Use the product PDP and A4 technical sheet for dimensions and product-specific specification data.
