Wardrobe & Dressing Room Hardware Guide | Capramont & Co

For wardrobes and dressing rooms, choose hardware by door height, repeat rhythm, centres, projection and finish sign-off. Capramont & Co supplies British-made cabinet hardware with long pulls, C pulls, knobs, samples, tear sheets and project review so studios and joiners can confirm the handle line, finish and fixing details before made-to-order production.

Specification route

Start with the wardrobe line, not the handle in isolation

For fitted wardrobes and dressing rooms, the safest specification route is to decide the handle line, scale, centres and finish approval route before drilling or releasing made-to-order hardware. Choose samples first, then send drawings if the elevation, existing centres or quantities need checking.

1

Choose the line

Decide whether the wardrobe bank needs long vertical pulls, discreet C pulls, or smaller hardware for drawers and secondary joinery.

2

Check the centres

Confirm centre-to-centre fixing distances before drilling, especially on fitted wardrobes, replacement fronts or custom joinery.

3

Sign off the finish

Review the finish physically under bedroom, dressing-room and mirror lighting before made-to-order production.

Room use

Wardrobe and dressing room hardware by zone

Use the same design language across the room, then change scale by function. Full-height wardrobe doors need confident grip and visual rhythm; dressing tables, islands and internal drawers usually need smaller supporting hardware.

Sizing and centres

Control overall length, centre-to-centre and repeat rhythm

A wardrobe handle has two important dimensions: the visible overall length and the centre-to-centre fixing distance. Overall length controls proportion; centres control drilling, replacement and fitting accuracy.

The Wardrobe Line Rule

Use one clear visual pull line across each wardrobe bank. If product sizes vary, vary them by joinery function rather than mixing unrelated styles across the same elevation.

  • Confirm handle position before drilling.
  • Keep the main wardrobe pull length consistent where possible.
  • Use shorter hardware for drawers and secondary joinery.
  • Check projection and grip clearance before production.

Replacement or custom centres

If wardrobes already have drilled fronts, measure the existing centre-to-centre distance first. Do not choose by visible handle length alone.

Product type Best wardrobe use Watch point
Long pull Full-height robe doors, tall joinery and dressing-room banks. Confirm centres, door thickness and handle line before release.
Short / medium pull Drawer packs, smaller doors and dressing tables. Keep alignment consistent across the elevation.
C pull Minimal slab fronts, discreet wardrobe details and contemporary joinery. Check grip clearance and fixing position.
Knob Internal drawers, small doors and dressing-table drawers. Avoid using too small a grip on heavy full-height doors.
T-bar Small drawers and secondary cabinetry. Use as a supporting detail rather than the main tall-door handle.

Finish sign-off

Finish sign-off matters more in dressing rooms

Bedroom lighting, mirrors, fabrics, stone and painted joinery can change how brass, bronze, black, nickel and stainless finishes read. Use physical samples before made-to-order production when the finish is repeated across a wardrobe bank or client-facing dressing room.

Heritage finish comparison

Use the Heritage Finish Knobs Palette when comparing aged brass, bronze, black, satin brass or stainless routes.

Final finish approval

Use the Finish Sign-Off Knob when the client, studio or joinery team needs physical approval before production.

Shape and scale check

Use the Essential Handle & Knob Set when the project needs a physical grip, scale and proportion check.

Studio / project review

Use the Studio Projects Sample Box where a studio, client or project team needs a structured sample route.

When to send wardrobe drawings or start a Hardware Schedule

Samples may be enough for a single wardrobe bank. Use project review when there are elevations, existing centres, quantities or finish questions. Use a Hardware Schedule when multiple rooms, approvals, revisions or repeat orders need one controlled record.

Use samples when...

  • You are still choosing finish direction.
  • You need to compare grip, shape or scale.
  • The project is not yet at drawing-review stage.

Send project details when...

  • You have elevations, door counts or an early shortlist.
  • Existing centres need checking.
  • Finish, material or custom size questions need review.

Start a schedule when...

  • The wardrobe package spans several rooms.
  • Approvals, revisions or phased ordering need tracking.
  • Products, finishes, sizes and quantities need one record.
Common questions

Wardrobe and dressing room hardware FAQs

What hardware works best for full-height wardrobe doors?

Long pulls usually work best for full-height wardrobe doors because they create a secure grip point and a consistent vertical line. Use smaller pulls, knobs or T-bars for dressing-table drawers, internal drawers and secondary joinery.

Should wardrobe handles be vertical or horizontal?

Full-height wardrobe pulls are usually placed vertically, while dressing-table drawers and internal drawers often use horizontal pulls. The important point is to agree one clear handle line across each elevation before drilling.

Do wardrobe handles need finish sign-off?

Finish sign-off is strongly recommended for wardrobes and dressing rooms because mirrors, fabrics, warm lighting and painted joinery can change how metal finishes appear. Use a physical sample before made-to-order production.

Can Capramont review fitted wardrobe drawings?

Yes. Send elevations, door counts, existing centre measurements, preferred products, finish direction and project timing through the project enquiry route. Larger or multi-room schemes can be moved into a Hardware Schedule.

Can I replace existing wardrobe handles without redrilling?

Possibly, but existing centre-to-centre measurements must be checked first. Measure the fixing holes, not just the visible handle length. If the centres do not match, use the custom-centre review route.

When should I use a Hardware Schedule?

Use a Hardware Schedule when the wardrobe or dressing-room package includes multiple rooms, varied product sizes, finish approvals, phased ordering, revisions or several approving parties. It creates one controlled specification record.
