Capramont Cabinet Hardware Specification System

Cabinet Hardware Specification for Bespoke Kitchens & Joinery

Specify cabinet handles, knobs, T-bars, cup pulls, C pulls and appliance-scale hardware through four connected decisions: product and design; dimensional fit; integrated appliance requirements; and materials, finishes and project application. Capramont & Co manufactures made-to-order cabinet hardware in England, with standard sizes, eligible custom fixing centres, technical drawings, finish approval and project review before production.

One connected specification route

Move from design intent to product geometry, appliance conditions, material selection and project review without separating the aesthetic decision from the engineering requirement.

14 Coordinated Collections · 39 Core Hardware Forms · 171 Standard Dimensional Options · 1,884 Standard Configurations Across Heritage Hardware & Performance Metals

01 · Specification Method

Four connected decisions, one hardware specification.

Cabinet hardware should not be selected as finish alone. Product form, geometry, appliance condition and material route interact. Capramont uses four specification routes so a project can move from design intent to a product, drawing, sample or review without losing the dimensional logic.

01

Product & Design Specification

Choose the hardware form, visual scale, collection language and role within the cabinetry. Coordinate cabinet handles, knobs, T-bars, cup pulls, C pulls and longer pulls across kitchens, pantries, wardrobes, dressing rooms, vanities, bars and fitted furniture.

02

Dimensional & Fit Engineering

Resolve centre-to-centre, overall length, projection, grip, front thickness, fixing method and rear access as separate conditions. Where existing drilling or bespoke joinery dictates a non-standard fixing position, use custom-centre review rather than assuming a standard size can be altered.

03

Integrated Appliance Engineering

Integrated refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, appliance banks and full-height joinery need more than a longer decorative pull. Confirm the pull family, C-C, overall length, projection, panel thickness, fixing route, adjacent clearances and vertical datum before drilling or release.

04

Materials, Finishes & Project Application

Choose material and finish in the context of the project. Heritage provides the principal architectural-finish route. Performance Metals adds project-led material routes including 316L stainless steel, naval brass, nickel-coated naval brass and Grade 5 titanium where offered.

02 · Route Selection

Start with the condition that controls the decision.

The fastest specification route depends on what is already known. New cabinetry usually begins with product and scale. Replacement work may begin with drilling centres. Appliance and specialist material projects often begin with project conditions and review.

Choose hardware type & scale

Use cabinetry role, collection language, architectural style, visual scale and whole-project coordination.

Engineering profiles use metric as the canonical standard-product geometry. Where a US display value is shown elsewhere, the fractional-inch value is a nominal readability aid and must not be converted back into a drilling or manufacturing instruction.

04 · Dimensional Control

Five rules to resolve before drilling.

A technically correct hardware choice depends on more than one dimension. Keep the drilling datum, external scale, hand clearance and fixing condition separate so one convenient number is not incorrectly used for another purpose.

C-C is not overall length.

For two-point hardware, centre-to-centre is the distance between fixing holes. Do not use the overall handle length as the drilling dimension.

Projection is not grip clearance.

Projection measures how far hardware stands proud. Grip clearance is the usable hand space behind, under or within the hardware.

Measure existing holes first.

Replacement work begins with the actual drilling pattern. If it does not match a standard option, use custom-centre review before redrilling.

Appliance panels need project checks.

Review panel construction, fixing requirement, unusual thickness, adjacent clearances and opening geometry before release.

Unknown stays unknown.

An unresolved project condition is not converted into an assumed engineering limit. Use project review before manufacture.

05 · Review Boundary

When the specification should move to project review.

  • Existing drilled holes or visible fixing marks need to be retained.
  • A non-standard centre-to-centre dimension is required.
  • Integrated appliance panels, full-height doors or demanding tall joinery are involved.
  • Cabinet-front or appliance-panel thickness affects the fixing route.
  • Projection, adjacent-door swing, fillers or meeting stiles create a clearance risk.
  • A specialist Performance Metals material is being considered for a particular environment.
  • Several rooms, sizes, finishes, quantities or approving parties need one controlled project record.

06 · Proof Layer

Specification evidence before made-to-order production.

Product, dimensional, material and appliance decisions are supported by the same evidence layer: manufacture in England, controlled product data, technical sheets, physical finish approval, project review and Hardware Schedule control.

Product + technical sheet

Current form, standard dimensions, centres, projection, section and fixing information where published.

Custom-centre review

Non-standard fixing positions, existing drilling and project-specific dimensional requirements are reviewed before manufacture.

Finish sign-off

Physical approval of colour, tone, patina direction and surface character before the made-to-order release.

Project review

Drawings, elevations, appliance panels, centre questions and unresolved fitting conditions move into a review route.

Hardware Schedule

Product, size, centres, finish or material, quantity, room, drawing reference and approval status are held in one project record.

07 · Project Continuity

From specification question to product and project record.

The system is designed to continue into real products, technical evidence and project control. A clear selection can move directly to a product. An unresolved condition moves to review rather than being disguised as certainty.

01

Choose the hardware role

Knob, T-bar, cabinet pull, cup pull, C pull or appliance-scale pull.

02

Check the geometry

Overall size, C-C, projection, grip, front thickness and fixing conditions.

03

Select material & finish

Choose a supported Heritage or Performance Metals route for the product and project.

04

Resolve exceptions

Existing holes, custom centres, appliance panels and uncertain conditions move to review.

05

Record the specification

Transfer products, sizes, centres, finishes, quantities and approvals into the project record.

08 · Common Questions

Cabinet hardware specification FAQs.

These answers define the public specification boundary. Product pages, technical sheets and project review remain the source for the selected product and final installation condition.

What should be specified first: the handle design or the dimensions?
Start with the hardware role and design family, then check whether the required size, centre-to-centre, projection and fixing conditions work for the actual cabinetry. For replacement work or existing holes, the drilling dimension may control the product decision earlier.
What does centre-to-centre mean on a cabinet handle?
Centre-to-centre, or C-C, is the distance between the centres of the fixing holes. It is the critical drilling dimension for two-point cabinet handles and pulls and should not be confused with overall length.
Can Capramont make custom centre-to-centre sizes?
Custom fixing centres can be reviewed on eligible designs. Feasibility depends on the selected product geometry and project condition, so non-standard centres should be confirmed before drilling or production.
When should an appliance pull be reviewed?
Use review when the pull is being specified for an integrated refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, full-height appliance panel or demanding tall joinery and panel thickness, fixing requirement, projection, clearances or custom centres still need to be confirmed.
How should material and finish be selected?
Select the finish or Performance Metals route against the actual product, project environment, handling, cleaning regime and interior palette. Physical finish approval should be completed before made-to-order production where colour, patina or surface character matters.
When is a Hardware Schedule useful?
Use a Hardware Schedule when a project includes several rooms, products, centre sizes, finishes, quantities, drawings, revisions or approving parties. It provides one controlled record before order and supports later additions or repeat work.
